6G-INTENSE at IETF 125 – Contribution to Future Network Management Standards

The 6G-INTENSE Project participated in the IETF 125 meeting, held in Shenzhen, China, contributing to discussions within the IRTF Network Management Research Group (NMRG).

During the session, Abdelkader Mekrache (EURECOM) presented work related to “Agentic AI for Intent-Based Network Management”, showcasing how AI-driven approaches can enable autonomous, closed-loop network operations in next-generation 6G environments. The presentation highlighted the potential of intelligent agents to monitor, analyse, and dynamically optimise network behaviour, addressing the increasing complexity of cloud-native and distributed infrastructures.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a leading global standardisation body responsible for the development of core Internet protocols, while the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) focuses on longer-term research topics that can shape future standards. Within this context, the NMRG explores innovative approaches for network management, including intent-based and AI-assisted solutions.

Participation in such international standardisation and research forums is key for 6G-INTENSE, ensuring alignment with global developments and contributing to the evolution of intelligent, automated network management for future communication systems.
